Cumbria

Lambs, walkers and rare birds – it must be Cumbria!

Back by popular demand, we have some more spring lambs. There’s a demoiselle crane at Mockerkin Tarn (20/03/16) and a charity walk from Workington to Keswick comes calling.

Enjoy. Visit and Subscribe at YouTube ScientificArtsImages.

A hectic morning in The Lake District – Lapwings

If you think nothing happens in The Lake District, think again. A typical Sunday morning, horses, cyclists and wild life. Lapwings, our first attempt at filming. We will be back with more sound and camera equipment.

Spring Lambs Alert! Springtime in Cumbria

We just find new born spring lambs the cutest things. This is part of a video blog which is all about living and working in a rural environment. By rural we mean in deepest Cumbria in a small village with only a telephone box and a mail box.

There’s lots to test you in the countryside and lots of rewards too.

Customised virtual tours on-line

So you want something different. Customised virtual tours on-line

This is the fourth in a short run of posts about virtual tours on-line. The first three have been about Google Trusted Tours. But right now I want to turn my attention to non-Google tours, our own customised tours.

These are great if you want something out of the ordinary.

Anyway, to give you an idea of what we are talking about here’s a few that we made earlier. Click on the images in this post to access the tours. You can click on the maps or click on the ‘targets’ on screen, or use the icons at the bottom to move around the businesses. These are virtual tours.

These are ideal for large establishments, or places with geographically widespread facilities or rooms. It means that there is no need to ramble through plain corridors to get from one room to another or from a swimming pool to a gym area in a large sports complex for instance.

A customised virtual tour can be designed around what you want to show. They help turn virtual footfall into real footfall and present important value considerations to your potential customers.

Another fab Google tour from Scientific Arts – Limelighting Cockermouth

I don’t put up every tour we do, and here we have a particularly interesting one. Limelighting is a lighting shop set inside a vintage cinema/theatre, so the layout is very unusual. There are layers of lights resting where the seating on the steps would have been arranged and the ceilings are vaulted. My goodness do they do a lot of lights! It’s on two floors. Clearly a unique location.

We loved it. And it was very challenging to photograph.

Here’s the tour, just click and drag on screen……

Here’s the Google knowledge card before the Google tour when viewed on a pc:

Now the result AFTER the Google tour with us, clearly now it’s presence on the web is very interesting and inviting and you really know what the business is about:

It’s even better if you Google ‘lighting shops Cumbria’, Limelighting is the first on the list and now has a great knowledge card. The pin on the map shows you exactly where they are and you can be a virtual tourist in the shop. Try Googling it now.

Here’s a few of my favourite photos from the shoot – you can see them when clicking ‘See Photos’ if you bring up the knowledge card by Googling ‘Limelighting Cockermouth’ or ‘lighting shops Cumbria’.

Another fab Google Tour by Scientific Arts, King Kong Climbing Centre Keswick

Well this was a challenge which included not just an extensive climbing facility, but also children’s play areas and castle, cafe, shop and ice wall.

It’s not everyday that you get to photograph an ice wall. Essentially this is a refrigerated room, where climbers can come to learn how to work with ice. In fact on the day we did the shoot, the guys from Berghaus were there testing out their new gear. We had to work fast and took less than a minute to capture the wall. Here we are looking upwards towards the lights and fans. The ropes are hanging down.

I must do my ‘before’ and ‘after’, so here goes, this is what the centre looked like on an iPad before the tour. It has a poor Street View image.

Now after the tour, we have selected the entrance to the shop and centre as the Street View Image, and this is now more appropriate. The See Inside (tour) and Photos are clear and demonstrate what business is about.

Another Fab Google Tour – The Lake Artists Society Summer Exhibition Grasmere

We were pleased and delighted to be asked to do a Google Tour for The Lake Artists Society Summer Exhibition in Grasmere. This is a very prestigious art society featuring art in many styles and media. It is a very exclusive group.

Doing the tour is rather special for us too, since this is a time bound live event – an exhibition. It is easy to forget that Google Tours can also be used for live events. In fact in our opinion it just doesn’t happen enough for promotional purposes.

This exhibition is opening in the next couple of days (from the date of this post). It’s been running here for more than one hundred years and is only available to view in person for 6 weeks. By contrast, this Google tour will continue to share the artists work with the world and has the potential for enquiries and on-line sales.

Established in 1904 The Lake Artists Society was always at the forefront of its art and is now jumping into the world of virtual reality still at the cutting edge.

Delightful and exciting! Below there’s a taster of some of the great shots taken at the show – If you want to see more of them then simply – Google ‘Grasmere Village Hall‘ and see all the photos for yourself by clicking on ‘See photos’.

Enjoy.

Before and After a Google Tour on the web

Now I’m going to show you the search results BEFORE and AFTER a Google Virtual Tour and Photos are added. This is for a business called Number Fifteen. Number Fifteen is a delightful arts, crafts and gift shop in Cockermouth.

On the left hand side (below), is how Number Fifteen USED TO APPEAR on an iPad when searching for the shop.

On the right hand side – this is how it NOW appears after we have completed a Google Tour and included our professional photos.

Number Fifteen before & after a Google Tour

Number Fifteen before & after a Google Tour

You can see that there is a tremendous improvement in the business presence and presentation.  Which one do you think your customers would prefer, I know which one I prefer!

In addition to the map, you can see See Inside (the Google Tour), you can go to Street View and you can take a look at the Photos that we produced.

Try Googling ‘Number Fifteen Cockermouth’ now and see what you see.

It will look slightly different on mobile and pc, but the key elements will all be there.

This is one of my favourite tours. You can see it here, why not take a virtual tour?

Even more reasons to take control of your Google+ Business Page

As we have already said in the previous post, Google includes your Google+ business page data when undertaking searches so it really is important to use this real estate wisely.

Is this your business?

Is this your business? – the message on unclaimed business pages

We’ve seen unclaimed Google+ business pages with tens of thousands of visitors – with no pictures, no opening times, no profile of what that business does, no web site listed and sometimes an incorrect address or pin in the wrong location on Google Maps because the business has moved premises and these details have not been updated. These businesses will have the on screen message shown in the picture above.

Even some claimed Google + business pages are not being managed effectively as they could be and we will talk about that later.

With 10’s of thousands of potential visitors each year to your page, isn’t it worth taking advantage of it and using it effectively? Not least to help with Google Search.

Worse still, when a page has not been claimed by the rightful owner we’ve seen sabotage on Google+ business pages. Sabotage mainly consists of someone saying that a particular business is closed or does not exist. That’s certainly not good news for the real owner.

So if you haven’t done so already, let’s find out how to ‘own your business identity’ on Google in our next few blogs.
